How to track your brand in Perplexity
Perplexity is worth watching closely because it’s a search-and-answer engine: it pulls from the live web and shows the sources it cites. That makes it one of the clearest places to measure whether a brand is winning AI-search visibility.
Why citations matter
Unlike an assistant answering from memory, Perplexity links to the pages it used. So you can see not just whether a brand is mentioned, but whether its own pages are being cited as the source — a strong signal you’re shaping the answer rather than just appearing in it.
How to check it
- Ask the neutral buyer question (no brand name): “Who are the best [category] providers?”
- Read the answer: is the brand named? Are any competitors named?
- Check the cited sources: is the brand’s domain among them?
- Repeat a few times — answers and sources vary, so look at the rate, not one run.
What to do with it
If competitors are cited and you’re not, the pages they’re winning with tell you what to publish or strengthen. Track it monthly so you can see whether changes move the needle.
